In 2019, Formula  1  released its first-ever sustainability strategy,  an ambitious plan to achieve Net Zero by 2030.  Today,  F1’s sustainability evolution continues to accelerate, driven by unified action across teams, promoters, circuits, and the FIA.  

Winter sports are facing a new reality: shorter seasons, unreliable snow, and increasing operational pressures. While snowmaking can extend winter sports seasons, it consumes significant energy and water, and cannot fully offset the effects of rising temperatures. The industry needs coordinated action across stakeholders to adapt and remain viable.

Rally Sweden has been directly impacted more than most sporting events by the disruption and unpredictability brought by climate change.  Relocating to the northern city of Umeå in 2022 in search of the reliable snow and thick ice that define this unique sub-zero event, Rally Sweden has used its move north as a catalyst to strengthen its sustainability ambitions. 

Climate change is threatening the very essence of winter sports. Declining snow cover and increasingly erratic seasons mean the snowsports industry faces an existential challenge. Yet despite the outlook, many resorts, federations, events, and manufacturers are taking meaningful action. January’s Ski Industry Climate Summit in Bolzano, Italy, shed light on this momentum.
