  • Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya retains the top position, followed by Mugello Circuit and Silverstone Circuit.

  • Singapore’s Marina Bay Street Circuit remains the world’s most sustainable temporary circuit, with WRC Secto Rally Finland ranking second.

  • Indianapolis Motor Speedway, Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps, and Jeddah Corniche Circuit are among the most improved performers.

Silverstone, June 30th, 2026 – Enovation Consulting, in collaboration with Professor Paolo Taticchi, Professor in Strategy and Sustainability at UCL School of Management & Co-Director at UCL Centre for Sustainable Business, has published the sixth edition of the Sustainable Circuits Index™ (SCI™), part of the Sustainable Motorsport Index™ (SMI™) initiatives. Since early 2026 the SMI sit under the Sustainable Alliance initiatives, a not-for-profit company with the aim to promote best practice of the racing racing ecosystem including circuits.

The SCI™ is a first-of-its-kind industry benchmark that evaluates and ranks the sustainability initiatives of 115 permanent and temporary motorsport circuits worldwide using publicly available data reported by the circuits or obtained from trusted and consolidated sources. Circuits are assessed against 21 industry-specific criteria across seven sustainability categories using a robust proprietary methodology developed by Enovation Consulting in collaboration with Professor Paolo Taticchi in 2021 and aligned with well-known and well-established ESG ranking methodologies.

Data collection and analysis for the 2026 SCI™ were conducted by Enovation Consulting between January 1st and December 31st, 2025, and verified by industry experts under the guidance of Professor Taticchi to ensure analytical rigour.

    Permanent Circuits

The 2026 SCI™ sees Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya retain the top position with a score of 77 points. Mugello Circuit once again ranks second, while Silverstone Circuit completes the podium in third place.

Just outside the podium places, Indianapolis Motor Speedway climbed 12 positions to secure fourth place. Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps also recorded a significant improvement, gaining 11 points and moving into the top ten.

Overall, 43 circuits—11 more than in the 2025 edition—improved their scores compared with the previous year, highlighting the sector’s continued commitment to advancing sustainability best practices, putting significant efforts in publicly communicating achievements.

    Temporary Circuits and Special Mentions

Among temporary circuits—all of which host either Formula 1 or WRC events—Singapore’s Marina Bay Street Circuit remains the world leader, with a score of 55 points. Marina Bay is the only non-permanent circuit to publish a sustainability report, one of only two to have a formal sustainability strategy and achieves positive scores across nearly all assessed parameters.

WRC Secto Rally Finland is another standout performer, rising from seventh place in 2025 to second place in the 2026 rankings. Jeddah Corniche Circuit also delivered a notable performance, recording a 17-point increase compared with the previous edition.

About the Sustainable Motorsport Index™

‘If you cannot measure it, you cannot improve it.’

This motto underpins the approach of the Sustainable Motorsport Index™ (SMI™), which assesses and measures the sustainability performance of motorsports stakeholders against the UN SDGs and the global ESG framework.

An industry first, the SMI™ is the only global performance system of its kind, benchmarking and comparing circuits and championships on the basis of publicly disclosed data. The findings within each index identify best practice, giving other key stakeholders the possibility to explore measures they could in turn adopt and implement.

The SMI™ uses carefully calibrated indicators and third-party validation by industry experts to provide a comprehensive and balanced comparison across five pillars: environment, social, governance, sustainability approach and engagement, accreditations, and awards.

Launched in 2022 during International Day of Clean Air and Blue Sky, the Sustainable Motorsport Alliance Membership includes a number of ESG services that respond to the demands of motorsport businesses as they embark on the road to zero, together with networking opportunities and introductions to trusted sustainable suppliers.
